I see Auckland Airport rainfall on 180mm for the month so far. More precip likely before the end of the month so definitely a wet August. The EW raingauge in Hanua has received 210mm so far which will be topping up the dams nicely.

Signs of spring showing up the last few days here, with the strength in sun getting just that much more.
Some ok convection about too although abit stronger looking CB,s towards Nelson lakes late afternoon.
This is a photo of my view looking west from Stoke, Richmond just to the left and where the steam billows from the mdf and fertiliser plants.
A few isolated showers in the mix there, excited to see the summer blow ups over richmond ranges.
Ive already noticed a convergence zone right around this area, between the coastal boundry, hills, and the general land about and west of Richmond. Seems to create its own local winds on calmer unstable days.

Looking like a quiet end to August, a trough slipping through Monday and then a strengthening ridge. A chance for spring sunshine next week. 2 months past the shortest day, you can feel the UV coming back.

Yes, a drier brighter weather week coming up. The SAM is currently in it's most negative phase for some years from memory.
I head over to Europe for a holiday this weekend,a change of climate and I hope to do some storm chasing while over there  .

Another beautiful day down in Canterbury.
As you say Nzstorm you can feel the sun raise now and definitely a change in the skies.
Id say give it until late September/October when our storm season 'chances ' arrive again.

Continued benign settled spring weather looks to continue for the foreseeable days down here, after tomorrow's wee southerly flick. Spring has well and truly sprung

Had a "Claytons" thunderstorm moving through here from 2:30pm with 3.1mm of rain falling.
Moving north now over the rest of the region.

Yes.
....but later an interesting but weak looking roll cloud moved across looking like a convergence cloud.
I noticed a slight NE then Southerly as it passed over, then the cloud banked in against Mt. Peel.

Only 1mm in Halswell, non event for us. But decent 15cm of snow on Mt Hutt to top it all up.

Glorious spring weather yet again today

I noticed there was nothing recorded at the RPA at Levels although the Rakaia radar recorded rain over that area in that period. Maybe the automatic station there needs fixing? or the bucket might be full of cobwebs and dung from dead insects causing it to fall down and staying down?
