EC 18Z has the jet streak running at 370 to 380 km/h from Auckland to BOP during the afternoon and evening. Not surprising MS have a STW in place for this area.

yeah but we may get a isolated thunderstorm this evening or night as the risk of thunderstorms remians the rest of the day. tommorow there is also a risk. the thunderstorm yesterday was great though. so lets see what happens if another storm developes or what? metservice has put us in the severe thunderstorm watch. so lets see what happens. yes does feel like spring. yesterday it felt like spring intill the thunderstorm came and dropped the temperatures back down to wintry feel.

Very heavy rain in Nelson currently, and a few rumbles of thunder over the ranges way.
About 5mm in the last 10 mins easy.
I think with this system being so complex the colder and stronger feed zone stayed south of christchurch and never really shifted north in terms of snow levels and relative to where the moisture was.
MS bang on with the higher warnings for that area, except the makensie didnt get it too bad this time.
Milder body of air over the northern south island and north island, which will stick around until late tomorrow.
