I saw a bolt of fork lightning shoot across the sky to the south-east while driving on the Southern Motorway roundabout East Tamaki on my way home from work about 7.15. Was spectacular. Only one I saw. Very heavy rain as I left downtown and headed south. Felt sorry for rugby fans at Eden Park!

yeah but at least they were safe away from the lightning

Showers passing over Chch, could easily be sleet now with temps from city stations around 2-3C.

There was settled snow on the Port Hills this morning. Still lying in patches late this afternoon around shady south facing areas above about 400m
