Yes, spillover here now in Ilam, quite moderate. Reports power out in oxford? Not too nice there at the moment. Still only moderate NW breeze here.
Cheers,

Very gusty here in Wellington out by the airport. Could very well get worse this afternoon too looking at the surface pressure charts for 1pm. Big pressure gradient over NZ!

It's ranging it a bit too close but Blitzortung is showing a cell that has moved inland from the West Coast and got stuck in the foothills :)

The one rumble I heard was from (elevated?) lightning that generated the strike that appears east of BP.

Rain clearing now.

It's been going off pretty good down here for an hour or three. Good to see the various lightning detectors getting a bit of a work-out.

had it all so far today in Reefton.
gusty winds, heavy rain, hail and thunder.
but it's been quite squally. everything goes at once then it calms down for a bit with only light rain, and then it all comes in again.

Just had a tremendous display directly above Omarama: There was an almost literally blinding flash immediately followed by a huge and rolling bit of thunder at least 30 seconds long, and stuff fell from shelves as the windows rattled and the cat went apesh*t.

We seem to miss out on it here Brian. Typically weakens as it comes onto NI.

The hot air coming off New South Wales into the Tasman is the was causes the elevated thunderstorms because it steepens the upper level lapse rates. The jet stream provides the lift as well orographic effects of Alps.

Yes,you can see that orographic effect of the Alps in that the lightning is not happening near the coast but along the Alps and to the east.
