Snow in the GFS forecast for the Texas Panhandle this weekend. I guess not that unusual for mid April.

Qantas have a sale with house of travel today. 1400 return to Dallas. That’s very good and it covers May and June. You don’t really get cheaper than that and this close to travel date.

A month to go guys, countdowns have started I'd bet. A month till the other Kiwi's go, 27 days for me as I am going to Dayton Hamvention first. Today should be a good day to armchair chase...

https://livestormchasing.com/map

NWS in Norman OK has already launched an extra weather balloon and will do another at 3pm due to the risk today. Lets hope there are no seriously damaging tornadoes.

Upper SW flow across the Rocky Mountains is king for storm chasing on the plains.

EU 500mb heights for 10 days time looking highly favourable.

Not sure the source of this map, but it is a useful glance guide to see if it's worth considering a drive seriously. Some poor chase territory has been a feature for a fair chunk of the season so far.

It looks like the lower map lacks the tree information, curiously it still has the key for it though. I haven't found any difference between the top version & the one I was sent in an e-mail from a US based chaser friend, except the reduction in border & removal of the watermark. I'm assuming the border reduction was to make it more printer friendly. I've subsequently moved the title and key of his original a little closer & cropped it in closer to acheive a slightly smaller dimension one that retains his information. Sadly it's file size is too high to distribute in here, but should anyone like a copy, let me know & I'll get one off via e-mail to you.

USA largely drought free at this time. Its unusual not to have more drought.

Yellow refers to dry but does not signify drought. https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentM ... nitor.aspx

A lot of lightning over Oklahoma currently! Tomorrow looking like HP supercells over north Texas.

The gfs fv3 has up to 250mm in parts of north Texas/southern Oklahoma next 15 days. So flooded roads could be an issue this season.

So a united sale started today and i couldn't resist buying some tickets at $1389, so I depart on the 18th and return 28th May, in and out of Dallas. The first leg is a bit nasty going AKL-SFO-DEN-DFW but return is much better with DFW-SFO-AKL.
