Re: General February Weather
Here's NIWA's preliminary 'Summer 2010/2011 Climate Summary'.
Akld Aero apparently recorded its highest ever summer mean-temp since records began there in 1959. Also the 2nd highest mean-temps for both Hamilton and Tauranga Airports.
Note that for the main centres, Akld Aero temps are quoted rather than Mangere, due to its thermometer under-reading yet again.
Michael, note that this is a pdf document, so you'll need 'Adobe Reader' installed to view it.

Again, earlier Alexandra records give a higher value for summer 1944-45, with 228mm.Nev wrote:Here's NIWA's preliminary 'Summer 2010/2011 Climate Summary'.

A noteworthy comparative lack of sunshine at Blenheim and Tekapo, locations normally competitive for highest totals at this time of year.

Yes, didn't think it was worth opening a separate thread for last summer, so tacked it onto the end of this one.Manukau heads obs wrote:when you say hottest summer, is that Dec/jan/feb combined I presume?
RWood, don't suppose you know which summer was the warmest for the Hamilton and Tauranga Airports, as those site records go back to 1946 and 1913 respectively?

Re: General February Weather
Not offhand, as I don't have the monthly means for them in my downloaded data. Given some time spent at CliFlo, it could be worked out. A punt for Tauranga might be 1934-35 (the warmest summer ever for a very large area of NZ), perhaps even 1937-38, 1974-75 or 1998-99. One of the latter 3 might be right for Hamilton Aero.Nev wrote:Yes, didn't think it was worth opening a separate thread for last summer, so tacked it onto the end of this one.Manukau heads obs wrote:when you say hottest summer, is that Dec/jan/feb combined I presume?

Re: General February Weather
Thanks RWood. I suspected the latter 2, but wasn't too sure beyond that. Given those dates may hopefully short-circuit a lot of leg-work.

Re: Summer 2010-11
Hi spwill, There was a bit of a disscusion about the 'Summer 2010/2011' summary at the end of the General February Weather thread, so I've moved those comments over here to your thread. Sorry my-bad, should have started a new thread then.

Re: Summer 2010-11
Thanks Nev, I see summer had the 2nd highest mean minimum temperature on record for Auckland, we can blame the very warm nights on the high dewpoint temperatures. Our mean max was the 4th warmest on record.

That's interesting because we are normally over run with them at this time of year, but this summer has seen bugger all.jamie.haultain wrote:not suprised it was 2nd warmest summer on record just be the share number of flys about. The summer was cooler than usual here as we only had the one really hot day,the lack of anticyclones hanging around for long periods been the reason for my area at least.

Re: Summer 2010-11
I think you need to check your facts, at least as far as daytime temps. go. Hanmer had its 4th highest average daily max. for summer. Kaikoura was also in that sort of territory.Richard wrote:That's interesting because we are normally over run with them at this time of year, but this summer has seen bugger all.jamie.haultain wrote:not suprised it was 2nd warmest summer on record just be the share number of flys about.
