Low over upper N.I. - Apr 27-29
Storms have developed over Northern Northland (mostly around the cape) on the trough and a weak occluded front is moving North from South Auckland atm.
Edit: Alan, you may want to turn off your night time upshift for 24 hours on Nexstorm as its very probable that you will get a storm tonight/tomorrow.

Re: Easter Weather
I ee the showers moving onto the far north are lightning active
some heavy showers here this evening from the slow moving frontal line over the area
the front that is over the auckland area could easily blow up
as the spiriling of the low is bringing in alot of energy from the NE, i.e its wrapping in arond it moisture from a jet stream train that has come down from the tropics
just seen that M/S have a thunderstorm watch now for the far north, weak tornadoes possible even

This looks rather neat on the shower over the BOP coast
I know its not a hook but to the untrained eye it would look like one.

Rain-band from the Coromandel crossing over Waiheke now (glad I checked the radar). Very active lightning in the far North and to the NE. Also a few strikes around Gt Barrier Is. and the Coromandel.

Sort of a winter thunderstorm scenario over the top of Northland. 500mb -20C, SST still quite warm on 21C. I could hear the static on the am band this morning and thought winter.
