It's getting colder here faster than I thought, given there is still a SSW breeze blowing (albeit light) - down to 7C now.Tornado Tim wrote:I would expect a frost here if the SW would die away.....

Re: General June Weather
I see the temperature as Ricky's place is plummeting now too, just as the sun comes up (the sun will not have enough heating to counteract that for another 30 minutes I would say)

Re: General June Weather
HA!!! still no 'official' frost this year. 0.2 degrees was the low for me and 0.4 for Tim. Thought we were going to finally tip that magical 0 degrees last night but not to be. Doubt we will have a 0 in June so going to have to wait until July to see the merc hit below 0 which is just staggering. As i said earlyer we often have frosts in April and last year in March we had a -2.0 or something horrendous which killed all the maize crops. This year nothing below 0 to date. This mornings ice was very very thin too. Not enough moisture to make it a white wonderland.
Im sure we will get some doozeres coming in with this next high though. Should see some -3 maybe a -4 if we are lucky.

Re: General June Weather
interestingly for me here, the last few days are actually average for temperature for the time of year
but feels like its colder than normal, simply because we are not used to it, after such a long run of warmer than normal !

Re: General June Weather
Lightning trackers have been picking up some strikes from the front out to our SW. I notice gfs has increased the instability a bit over the north for today. Front is due to cross Auckland later this morning. 500mb temps -24C with front.

That shower line near our West Coast now, thunderstorm activity still showing up to the NW on the line. Looks like parts of west coast Northland are in the firing line for a storm in the next hr.

Re: General June Weather
Looks like some chain showers developing to the South of Christchurch. If they work in towards the CHCH area they can bring good rain totals if frequent enough. Subtropical low potential for the end of this week, early next week.

If find that interesting to read.More than 1400 lightning strikes had already been recorded by WeatherWatch's lightning tracker. Most of the lightning had occurred off the Taranaki and Northland coasts

Re: General June Weather
Its very intense and very very slowly working its way towards us looking at 12pm but doubt it will maintain that intensity by the time it is here.Razor wrote:Is quite strange how that blob of rain hasn't moved for 3 hours...maybe a low forming?
