Re: General July Weather
Currently 5.4C here, little cloud or wind.
Looks like, apart from Nelson Aero, virtually all MS's subzero temps appear to be in the N.I. this morn, with Waiouru leading on -5C and Taupo Aero on -4C.

Re: General July Weather
Wow! Today's lowest temps were in the N.I. and the highest temps in the S.I. (Timaru Aero 16C).
Not often you see that in July.
Much warmer than yesterday here with 13.7C around 1:30pm, but I see Ricky managed 15.2C.

Re: General July Weather
I suspect some relatively warm air got left behind, originating from over NSW, Aus, in the NW flow a few days ago, and has come around the bottom of the high
i.e different originating airmass source than the airmass over the NI (which the SI had yesterday)
couple that with a critical SWer over the SI, where, apart from high cloud, the sun warmed the air moving over the land

Re: General July Weather
Trying out some good GFS Mapping software.....
It took me a bit to figure out how I could plot the map over the international dateline.
A nice high rolling in, more frosts on the cards......

Re: General July Weather
Looks like we may be get a decent rain event over the north and east of the North Island thursday into the weekend. Still 4-5 days out but worth a comment now I think. 100-200mm on the cards for Northland/Coromandal/Gisborne. Have to see how this pans out in the models.
I don't normally see frost here anyway, so havn't noticed the lack of them.

Yea the charts look good eh, I am trying out some products that you can't get from NOAA's Air Resources Laboratory.
I havnt seen any where else you can get a shear profile.... (without looking at a skew-t of course)
I can export a LLS (low level Shear) and DLS (deep level shear) and another convective index and of course the standard B4LLI, CAPE etc.....
At least now i don't need to trowel through websites to get a map
You can obviously see the Jet-stream having a big impact on the DLS.

Re: General July Weather
I've noticed the lack of frost this year, usually at least 3 ground frosts a year here. I had thought we might get one tonight, but this afternoon has reached 15C (dewpoint 10C), so don't think it will get quite cold enough now.

Re: General July Weather
Stayed at 9c as the min low last night, think the high was about 11c for yesterday, didn't cool down much.

Re: General July Weather
agree, DP is too high.....will get fog probably that will limit the cool downbut this afternoon has reached 15C (dewpoint 10C), so don't think it will get quite cold enough now.
