I took a look at the Waipu tornado damage this morning. Some locals saw the tornado come in off the sea just north of Waipu Cove township , it crossed some fields blowing over quite a few large trees . I'm told it picked a up caravan and blew it through a small building destroying both. It looked like it just missed a couple of houses before heading inland weakening away.

Interesting pics spwill. Looks like a solid F1 event there.
I see there could be a bit of a warm advective snow event over the Taihape/HB hills later tomorrow. The leftovers of this moist low being undercut by colder air. GFS has been signaling it and Met Service have a snow warning for it.

I need to go down to Murupara to do a job... Only about 20 minutes work. I'm thinking I might head down to Turangi/National Park and knock it off on the way.
Best set up I've noticed in years!

Every time I look at GFS it has the Monday night low in Auckland slightly higher than before... I see Metservice raised their low too, up to 3C. Darn, I wanted a frost!!

Darn, it's coming in too late to make it worthwhile going down today and I have a commitment tomorrow morning.

850mb chart for 6pm tomorrow. Rarely do we see the 850mb-5C reach Auckland.
Snow flurries to very low levels over the lower half of the North Island tomorrow.
