Northern Thunderstorms - Aug 11/12
Chance of thunderstorms on the West and East of the North Island tomorrow with the front crossing the NI tommorow.
I am not so sure about Metservices outlook for Northland having a mod risk.
Id say there would be a low risk instead, low to mod for Waikato, Mod for some areas of the BOP and mod risk for the West coast of the NI from Taranaki to Raglan.

Re: General August Weather
Typical, and I'm too busy to consider a chase at present. Oh well. Maybe Friday when I have an 11 hour 500km Coromandel loop trip planned.

Yep, almighty thunderclap woke me around 1:40 am, followed by several lesser ones over the next 10 mins. Great lightning show! Most of the 6.7mm here since yesterday evening fell during that 10 mins.

Here is some Data from my Weather Database when the front passed through for those who are interested
http://wx-matangi.dyndns.org/Weather/wxevent2.php
I think I might add a graph to it sometime.
IC means Intra cloud, CG means Cloud to ground and the - and + just indicate the different polarities of the strike.

Re: Northern Thunderstorms - Aug 11/12
Was startled awake here at 1.40am by a tremendous clap of thunder; saw a half dozen IC lightning bolts to the east of here before tiredness got the better of me.
