Canterbury coastal thunderstorm(s) - 14/15th of August

Unread post by Lacertae »

Thought it would make sense to separate the t-storms from the snow.
I'll soon post my shots of this morning's stormy weather taken from the Kaitorete Spit ... it was GREAT !!!

Watched it unfold from wigram, couldn't really go chase it when it did hit. Witnessed a couple strikes, hail and a possibly gustnado, well at least it looked very similar to one that I had witnessed a couple years back.

I've forgotten to mention the 2nd cell gave 3 CG over the ocean (should they be called CO or CW then ?) giving good rumbles, and a couple of IC. I didn't have the time to make a video, the cell was approaching fast and I wanted to capture that rather than "usual" CG ! ;P And after that I was driving away and wouldn't have a clue what happened save for tons of soft hail and really strong side winds around Gebbies Valley. :-S

No would have been somewhere just south of Prebbleton.

I probably was still trying to "catch up" with the cell at that moment ...

I heard the thunder as the squall moved across at Halwell. Never saw the lightning as I was busy working.
Thunderstorm hail fell too, some about a half a cm across, not your usual wintry hail stuff.
Heres to a good thunderstorm season coming up  :D
