Severe gales in Hawkes Bay andWairarapa
Those gales seemed to be unusually prolonged. Here in Canterbury (Chch/BP at least), northwesterly gales usually seem to last no more than about 1/2 a day, but these NI severe winds look like being a 2 day event. Where are the Hawkes Bay forum members, or have they been blown out into the Pacific?

the above weather station either is too sheltered or just does not get that wind very well...or just missed out this time around
those lee trough winds are pathcy....some areas will get them real bad, others will not....
the other problem is that trees like populars are in full leaf now,....when they were not in the winter,....and so catch the wind easily
