Interesting Orion how the radar is showing the rain mainly inland around the foothills where you are and from Waipara northwards, mind you the radar is not showing to true rate of rain fall here.

Re: Deep low crossing North Island Saturday 3 March
Nothing exceptional here yet with just 72km max gust.
Looking at the radar it looks like the low has become almost stationary for the last hour and a bit. Maybe even on a slight NE track. Anyone else notice this?

what 110kmh does to a wind turbine
snapped the steel guy wires
it landed on top of the compost bin, so I think its just the blades that are stuffed!

I thought the pressure drop on my station of 2.7 hPa in 1 hr (just before midnight) was impressive!

I tied down the Jacaranda tree because it looked vulnerable in a gale but not needed

Re: Deep low crossing North Island Saturday 3 March
The showery weather moving in from the SW will likely generate some windy weather here.

Yes, I agreeThe showery weather moving in from the SW will likely generate some windy weather here.
I think the wind field is exanding as the low struggles to cross the tararua ranges
as the barometer is steady here at the moment
you can see a big trough surge pushing up and around on its NW axis now
once it reforms on the wairapa side it will likely deepen again, increasing the SW flow over the upper NI

Looks like it is grinding to an end in Wellington..
Biggest gust I have heard of was 157kph at My Kaukau, which I can see out my lounge window..
How it looks on a fine day..

Someone left the fridge door open today brrr, 3 days into autumn before the equinox makes for a change from shorts to trousers.
Only 12mm here from this system, but the wind ramped up this afternoon gusting to gale force at times been awhile since weve had winds this stron, even strong enough to nearly miss a jolting wobble.

Re: Deep low crossing North Island Saturday 3 March
great M/S Blog of the low:
http://blog.metservice.com/
It mentions how the low did not cross the lower NI, and instead a replacement low formed on the other side
