Re: General March Weather
Oh, excellent (we need a sarcasm font), I see yet another low is incoming. Looks like pretty heavy rain for the NE of the North Island from around dinner time tonight until mid-late morning tomorrow. Personally, I am struggling with the lack of sunlight at the moment - it's making me feel really low. I don't think I've seen any bright sun in four days. It's not even winter and already SAD is kicking in!

Raining at about 6-7mm/hr here for the last hour, a steady soaking rain.

Re: Low pressure for the north from 19th March
Thanks Michael, LOL.
Solidly torrential rain here. Lots of surface flooding between Takapuna and Glenfield. The Wairau culvert is heaving with water up to the top of the concreted walls though not yet near hitting the top of the grassy banks above. 8.2mm in my gauge in the last hour.

Have just been for a drive out to The Wairau culvert-ometer also, bloody impressive down the milford end. The roads are ultra dodgy, anyone not on storm watching missions should stay home 32mm so far here, 16.5c

I love the wild stormy weather, for sure, but I need my serotonin boost in betweenVertigo wrote: sorry to hear that, but im loving it - im the opposite, i despise sunny weather, and stormy stuff like this recharges me. we get way more sun than storm!
My parents street in Glenfield flooded right across - Dad had to get out in it and rake out the drains to prevent it going into someone's basement.

Re: Low pressure for the north from 19th March
Was moving a Mobile Dental Unit between schools this afternoon. About 4.30pm as we arrived at Thorndon school the heavens opened, Talk about drowned rat syndrome, and it poured all the way back to Tauranga.
I sure hope it isn't doing that for the move early tomorrow morning.
Wind is up at present so I'm hoping it won't be too rough a night.

Rain has eased right back now but we have council trucks right outside - not sure it's flooding related but it looks like the neighbors water supply has gone off. They're poking a long metal probe into the garden and at one point water is bubbling out of the ground. Perhaps that is contributing to the flooding rather than as a result of it.

'The best memory is not so firm as faded ink' - old Chinese proverb
56mm here for the 24 hrs to 9am this morn, with nearly all of that falling in about 6 hours.
I'm guessing David's total includes 2-3mm from around dawn yesterday?
Surprised to see Ricky only recording 27mm compared to other Akld areas though.
Some more 24 hour totals to 9am this morn c/o NIWA...
36mm - Warkworth
40mm - Whangaparaoa
36mm - Albany
44mm - Auckland Aero
38mm - Pukekohe

Re: Low pressure for the north from 19th March
No chance of my forgetting this past summer here, our cloudiest on record - and unless we get several sunny days next week, new lows for both Jan-March and Dec-March will be set as well.
On further checking - we'd need wall-to-wall sun from tomorrow to month's end to avoid the Dec-March low - ain't going to happen!

Only 1.4mm around dawn yesterday. That makes 45mm in the 24 hrs to 9amNev wrote: 56mm here for the 24 hrs to 9am this morn, with nearly all of that falling in about 6 hours.
