April 2012 Weather Summaries

Unread post by Tornado Tim »

Looking back at my records, this April was remarkably similar to April 2011.

Rainfall both in the 70mm range, 75mm last year and 70.2mm.
Max temp was a little higher from last year due to the Foehn wind event in early April.
Lowest temp and avg temperatures across the month are quite similar to last years.

Data from Matangi for April 2012 can be viewed: here and April 2011 here for reference.

My summary is here. A very dry April with only 27mm rainfall.
It was very similar to April 2010, looking at my historical page :)

Numerous sunshine records set (some debateable given the difficult comparison of manual with electronic data), including a total of 247.6 hours at Nelson, the highest NZ April reading on record (there is a higher one from Nelson in the 1910s, but it records for that period look decidedly dodgy).
