General August Weather
Seems as the trough continues into the first week allowing a general low pressure series of troughs in and a westerly flow to go into second week.

Re: General August Weather
Thanks for your help in July threads indicating we didn't need to take extra prepartions for a polar blast this week. Even horizontal drizzle tomorrow should be manageable as it doesn't sound like any of it will be white or solid.
Are there any indications that there could be any colder or cloudier days still to come in August? I realise that could be hard to call, but my impression is that this audience will have the best answer possible at this stage.

Still looking like an easterly anomaly in August, so simple answer is yes.moylanr wrote: Thanks for your help in July threads indicating we didn't need to take extra prepartions for a polar blast this week. Re: General August Weather
I think Auckland will have a warmer than normal August and September. Not sure about the pre xmas months, will depend on how El Nino shapes up.
Today wasn't a bad day with sunny spells and 16C.

Re: General August Weather
I see Akld Aero recorded 20.6C yesterday, which beats its previous August daily max-temp of 20.3C set in 1971, since records began in 1962.

Re: General August Weather
Show how warm this NE air stream is at the moment that Auckland managed that kind of temp, also that we had clear sky here in the small hours yet on frost, mind you high humidity helps.

Re: General August Weather
Fine morning with 13C. No doubt some showers coming our way later in the day.
Sunday looks less interesting now but that trough Tuesday looks a goodie.

Re: General August Weather
Little bit of morning drizzle here this morning with 2mm recorded. Cloudy day today, had the sun here last 2 days but low cloud dominant today. GFS was hinting at some potentially heavy stuff Tuesday night through Wednesday for Canterbury including CHCH with the more favourable Southerly airflow but the latest run as written this off pushing the low a little further north. See if it comes back into play over the next 24 hours.

Good photos.
Overcast here with patchy drizzle this morning. Still a fair amount of surface water around the area.

It looked really good for a while from the North Shore, looking back towards Auckland.

Re: General August Weather
we had heavy showers develop over the Manukau harbour yesterday afternoon then move out to sea
was like summer time heat build up showers
was a nice looking rain free base on it, with lowerings at times

Re: General August Weather
Same deal here yesterday too Brian, was talking to the neighbour around 10am & both commented if it was actually August or December, it had that summery feel to the air (and showing in the sky.)
Apparently there was some thunder up the road in Westport, which wouldn't surprise me as around 3pm a big shower unloaded over us here & as it moved to the south, it took on a very thundery look to it but didn't notice any lightning coming from it.
We have had a pretty good run of it so far this month, with a cracker of a day towards the end of last week sending the temps up quite a bit. Really hasn't been much of a winter at all since the 2 big snow blasts of June.
I have probably jinxed everything now.
