Kelvin Helmholtz cloud NZ

Unread post by cupoteacoast »

Tues 4th Sept Paekakariki - At dawn this morning, I was very privileged to see a line of rare cloud like this heading north. It is a Kelvin Helmholtz cloud, and probably caused by wind sheer as the weather locally in Paek was brewing from the mountains to the E-NE. Managed to snap a shot of the Kelvin Helmholtz before it dissipated. Also a number of "holes" in the sky above us and to the E, giving beautiful effects. The squalls and black cloud coming over the mountains and bringing rain were more from the NE, while out in Cook it was from the SW. Prior to this just as the sun started rising it was lenticular over Paek.
