Boxing day cb/funnel over South Canterbury
An interesting convergence line developed to the north of Timaru from about 5.30pm on boxing day with a dry northwest land breeze converging with a cool moist easterly sea breeze near the coast. An upper cold pool supplied sufficient instability for cb's to form in what was quite a dry atmosphere. Funnel clouds, hail and lightning (CG's) were observed within the line.

Thanks Steven for those excellent photo's.
There looks to be very little precipitation under those Cb clouds. Reminds me of the Thunderstorms I saw while travelling through Western USA where dew points are very low.
Isolated Storms in fine weather always make for good viewing.
Well done Aaron on your 1000 posts, always enjoy reading them.

Actually, the colour in these photos looks a bit funny to me, looks washed out blue. I have noticed that with other photos posted on this forum via the attachment facility. I would have used my website but I have a tempory problem accessing it at the moment.
I did not consider there to be a funnel in ca3, but I can see what you mean Aaron. I'll blow up the original and have a closer look.
