Had no luck yesterday. I thought it looked likely that storms would form up in Amuri on a convergence line but ended up getting nada. Too much cloud cover up there in the end.

Small bit of consolation this morning as a Cb floated over Banks Peninsula, only a small amount of lightning in frame but better then nothing.

Considering nearly all the east coast of the South Island was on alert it was a tough call 'bout where to go bro' ! I would have been unable to decide what to do if I had been out ... and hardly any pics posted probably means the cloud cover was the same all around ?

Interesting to see that lightning active CB over Banks Peninnsula this morning i didnt know about that, but there was some semi decent CU clouds about this morning which breifly built up and produced some spit showers with large rain drops.
Unfortunatly yesterday there was too much cloud around so even if you were chasing it wouldnt be very photogenic, infact not that im complaining with the amount of general thunderstorm set ups we have had this season so far but not alot of them have been photogenic.
That is the best set up is to be able to sit on the outside of isolated/slow moving cells and get excellent lightning photos without having to be chased by a gust front or incoming low cloud with the southerly to being too overcast with rain.
Wednesday nights cells along the coast were good like that apart from at Birdlings with that mid level cloud in the way, and then September 4th was the perfect set up.
But certainly an increase this season so far for thunderstorm chances as a region up from the last 2-3 years atleast during the December/January period, heres hoping for further action come February-May as the autumnal set ups ocurr.
