I see there was a brief thunder shower near Manakau Heads last hr :-)

Took this photo out near the Airport early afternoon, these clouds produced a thunderstorm over the hills of SE Auckland as the moved southeast

Interesting tale in the Waikato Times yesterday about 1 of 2 men struck by lightning in different parts of the Waikato on Sunday. Fortunately, both were wearing gumboots. Sadly, a nearby horse (no doubt with steel-shoes) wasn't so lucky. :-(

I drove past an equestrian event of some sort, i.e riders on horses , minutes before lightning bolts starting hitting the ground around me ....when I went past I almost felt like stopping and telling them a thunderstorm was about to hit....

The two men were on Campbell Live last night, funnily enough at the end when he says definatly be abit more weary of storms in the future, i wonder if they were aware that those clouds in the background were developing thunderstorms.

It was an exceptional day for lightning. Would be interesting to know the lightning count for Sunday.

Nice Graphic Tim!

Looks similar (if not the same) to what MS recorded on Sunday, going by the graph below posted on their facebook page. It has a total of 22,268 strikes for the 60 hrs from midday Friday to midnight Sunday (don't think either figure includes IC strikes from memory)...
