Re: Large Tasman Low June 15 to 18th
Quite alot of flooding onto the road between Halsell and Motukarara, and lesser flooding in afew places further along SH75. Went into Akaroa and there must've been even heavier rain there (as compared to the rest of the peninsula) as there's major flooding over the road and sports field near the northern entrance to the town.

for those of you interested in seeing what's happening on radar and aren't on facebook, the met service posted this radar image there just before 2pm with the following blurb:Orion wrote:At least we can make do with our extensive network of observersBradley wrote:I wish I had the metservice radar to take a look at!!
'Heavy persistent rain continues to spread in S. Cant. and Otago. Latest warning http://www2.metservice.com/warning.html Elsewhere scattered showers with some thunder (especially N. Taranaki) are spreading in across northwestern areas. See the latest national radar image.'

80mm so far at the Uni, 120mm at Pine Hill. Leith peaked around midnight at 53 cumecs, now at 30, Taieri River is at 1150 cumecs and so is currently higher than the Clutha which is on 1110.

Re: Large Tasman Low June 15 to 18th
Both the north and south branches of the little Hinds River at Mayfield are risen and filthy, and the river is even in full spate at the bridge on the Maronan Road - don't know when I last saw that!
Between Mayfield and Ashburton: surface flooding in paddocks, on roadsides, and across roads at times.
A further 16mm rain here today, making 95mm for the event.
So far.
Light rain continues; 8.3 degrees.

Re: Large Tasman Low June 15 to 18th
Still raining abit here but eased up a lot now which is good, a lot of flooding everywhere today as you will see on the news today.
The next high tide could be some problems, some usual spots and that silly rebuild of the Avon river at Fitzgerald there why they brought the road level down like that with the river is beyond me .

Are you referring to "carbon black"?wembley wrote:We could try getting planes up loaded with tonnes of soot to drop into the cloud tops in strategic areas of that low to just nudge it off course so it harmlessly tracks out into the ocean and misses us completely.
The soot, being black would absorb the sun's heat and warm up the cloud tops also possibly weakening the system.

Hi Talbot - 2 people from Waddington on one forum, what are the chances of that?!
So, we're not looking at a 2006-type event then..

Re: Large Tasman Low June 15 to 18th
99.2mm here for the event and 120mm for the month now. Paddocks down the road have water flown over the road and cars crawling through almost tyre height water. It wont recede much before the next lot of moisture.
