From mid afternoon there was a line of towering Cu with the odd shower/Cb through our eastern sky, Northland to Waikato. Looked like a Summer sea breeze convergence line
Saw a skywarn sticker on the back of a 4WD, first time Ive seen one outside the states! Ive got the feeling the driver was from Texas as they had a couple Texas related stickers on there aswell.

Interesting to see that there steve looks good beautiful day here in cantab land, warming up nicely now that spring is getting closer, good signs. just had a wee look at the models for next wensday, could be a slight chance there for thunderstorm activity, although the Southerly change does look to be coming in early. anyways early days but could be worth a watch.
The weathers so oirwjew-ing boring at the moment, there Mikey. Frustrating
...but the mild winter since the end of June, with early spring signals, the settled weather does look nice

Oh, I haven't done that yet. Please keep me in the loop as I'd be keen on going if you had the room and I can get time off. Have often looked at weekend scenarios and nearly jumped on a plane for a brief visit.

They get structured supercells a with large hail over there. The trick is to have a set up coincide with a quiet week at work or a weekend.
Just had a burst of heavy rain from that front.
Pic here of cb + fog. An unusual combination.

I saw that on the bus into the city this morning - looked very dark and ominous. Started to wonder if there was a thunderstorm rolling in, but just another ordinary rain shower
Lovely fine day here today but interesting very weak cloud forms, prior to the wind reverting back to the SE, around 3:30pm, after a day of very light north to NW winds.

August 2013 to date seems to be rivalling 2009 for the title of warmest August on record. August 2009 was 1.5C above the 1971-2000 national average temp of 8.7C, and most of the country so far looks to have been well above that.
Although figures are likely to be a little lower by month's end, Chch Aero's current T-mean is a remarkable 2.3C above its 1981-2010 August normal. Tauranga Aero, Wgtn (Kelburn), and Dunedin (Musselburgh) are 1.9C above their normals, while Hamilton is 1.8C and Akld (Mangere) 1.6C above.
