Looks like a torrential cell north of Auckland, look out for flooding up there!

The view on http://www.sitecam.co.nz/auckland_webcam/ was pretty much blotted out by rain at 17:59!

huge downpour out NW auckland by the looks on the 60km radar.
Looks dark here but radar shows we wont get much. Hopefully it can develop a bit more. As soon as it hit land it fired up. So it will continue to build as it moves east.

I'm seeing some very low cloud bases looking south from Onerahi, Whangarei
Wind picked up significantly as the front just passed over

Heard thunder here earlier. Some good rain in it but sadly quickly swung to the west. I was BBQ ing on the north varadah at the start. Then te rain was getting me so I went round to the west varadah and after a few mins I was getting wet there so had to wheel it back around to the north varadah.

Report of a slightly damaging tornado in Raumati South, near Paraparaumu late yesterday.
'Mini tornado strikes Kapiti' - Stuff
Have my doubts though, as it says 'everything had been blown over in the same direction'. It also says that someone saw a 'tornado-like funnel' pass to the east of Foxton at about 5pm, but that's about 60km further up the coast.

I doubt this was a tornado. The damage is just way to 'localised'Nev wrote:Report of a slightly damaging tornado in Raumati South, near Paraparaumu late yesterday.
