A warmer feel to our weather today with the lifting dewpoints and light winds, isolated showers, 10-21C, dp16C.

Re: General April Weather
I see Metservice are forecasting rain with heavy falls here in Canterbury on Monday and Tuesday. In their severe weather outlook they have moderate chance.... I am not really seeing this in the models...? Although GFS in their latest runs shows a little potential but Eastern Otago looks more vulnerable at the moment and they only have low risk...

General April Weather
Jeez it wasn't warm here today. Didn't reach 15 until after 1pm and only toped out at 17.8 just before 5pm. Started the day at a chilly 3.9.David wrote:Feeling muggy as here! Currently 21C, dewpoint 17C.
Had cool rain which actually lifted the temp. Had 6.5mm today.

Re: General April Weather
A very fast moving frontal band this morning swept over with brief rain, I thought I seen a flash of elevated lightning when I was driving but wasn't too sure.
But a nice warm day has followed anyone would think spring is here with how green everything is, managed 23.5C back to 21.4C now .
Also some weak thunder/hail activity over north Otago/ South Canterbury this afternoon.

Re: General April Weather
Quite an active polar system crossing NZ early week. 500mb chart for Monday! Main interest with this system will some squally thunder hail in the west and heavy rain over Otago. There may be a few rumbles over Canterbury Monday pm.

Re: General April Weather
Currently 1.7 at Christchurch Airport! Heavy rain looks more on the cards for Otago than Canterbury early next week. I would expect to see Metservice increase their confidence for Otago today from low to moderate and keep Canterbury at a low risk.

Re: General April Weather
Cold 9C here this morning.
Isolated thunder could reach the west of the North Island tonight (more likely Northland). The overnight front could be quite squally.
Looks like some squally winter type cb's over the west of the North Island Monday pm/Tuesday am with hail. All possibly south of Auckland though.

Re: General April Weather
Metservice yesterday had a low of 2 then 3 as they changed their forecast. I was thinking it seemed very low considering the amount of cloud around. We only got to a low of 10 last night. That's 7 degrees off target.
Looking forward to more rain. We are now well behind on last years rainfall to date.

We're not. Had enough of it already this year.jamie wrote:

If this pattern continued for the next 8 months, it's going to a wet year for the SI east coast.

Re: General April Weather
Not sure why razor. They contradict their own modified 3 day map. According to that tomorrow is mainly dry with some rain Tuesday morning. Whether they end up being right or not, they should be reflecting one another and they totally the opposite. In-fact currently 0.1mm for CHCH tomorrow.
