Re: General July Weather
Certainly a cold start here on 1 degree. It was still 9.5C when I went to bed at 11pm so that is quite a big drop!

Re: General July Weather
Absolute ripper of a few days here so far.. but most definately the coldest morning of the year yet.. 1 below, so it says.. but in sheltered places you could drop that by another 5 or so degrees. Just loving this sunshine right now, fair enough you only have a couple of hours window to really do anything but it is magical for this supposed winter.

Re: General July Weather
Absolutely agree with Dale's comment. Stunning few days over this side of the hills.
After a cracking -6.2°C this morning warmed to 12.5°C.
Last 4 days have had daily temp ranges of 16.5°C, 17.6°C, 15.5°C and 18.7°C.
Now that's not too bad a run.

Tonight is the coldest evening I can recall in Auckland, currently 3.4C at Greylynn by 9.30pm.
Clear skies, light winds in a dry cold airmass.

Re: General July Weather
No idea what temperatures I encountered today at Orewa, Silverdale and Kaukapakapa, but the clouds coming through from the SW looked very winter-stormy, and the rain "sprinkled" down at times in a manner that, at home, I would have expected it to turn to sleet or snow. It was very cold!

Re: General July Weather
was sleety type rain here in a shower line that went through at 8:30 (when then surface wind was a cold 6C SE wind ahead of it) and yes the clouds looked like snow clouds alright

Re: General July Weather
Some wintry looking showers here the morning before the weather cleared. The dewpoint comes up tomorrow while the upper levels stay cold next few days, should set off some Cbs in the southwest flow , Northland west coast looks the most likely place to catch them.

Yep we are basically 0 currently. MS had -1 in their forecast but that chafed to -2 this evening. Think it could be more a -3 on the cards.David wrote:Already down to 3 degrees, could be colder than last night the way things are going!

General July Weather
This winter we are getting frost after frost which is great. Last year we only had less than 5 nights below 0 all winter from memory. This year we must be getting near 10 already or if not more.

Re: General July Weather
Had EF all here so far.
What winter? Most excitement was a few weeks ago when that poor sod hit some black ice on the bridge & nearly plunged into the Grey River.. should have got the glycol trucks out earlier
Dead unit here so far.

Re: General July Weather
Yesterday morning was the first time I've ever seen a dusting of snow on Otawa in the back of Welcome Bay. From memory it's about 500m. I'm doubting there will be any this morning due to lack of precipitation overnight, but it has certainly been cold enough at times. Expecting a reasonable frost.

Re: General July Weather
Think Akld's Ardmore Aero was close to -2C again this morn. It was also down to -2C last Fri and Sat, which is colder than what Chch Aero has managed over the last 7 days.Razor wrote:Thoughts are with Auckland at this difficult time.
