SpringLike Pattern
The maps show a spring like pattern ie the Cantabrians won't like it as the S-SW changes are shallow and most Aucklanders apart from (one ) will like it with WNW then SW back to NW later in the week

Yes, I suppose it's a wee bit like that.
Lovely sunrise this morning, as shown on TVOne weather this evening. Also a brilliant mammatus display in the undercloud of the NW Arch later this morning. I didn't photograph it as I haven't got a digital camera and I do have video shots of other mammatus forms in NW Arch cloud cover over Canterbury.

I had a great day skiing on Mt Hutt today in spring like conditions, tommorrow will be a different story though with 100 km northwesters forecast then a change around to the south with hopefully some more snow for the mountain.
At last we could train on snow free rugby grounds tonight, with the mild conditions of the past few days.
Cheers.

Hardly any wind yet in Chch - funny how it's often gusty inland while at the same time as it's calm here. I notice AA is warning of high winds on some inland Canterbury highways.Very windy overnight from the northwest, starting to pick up again now.
Mild temperature 15 degrees.
Similar temperature in the city.

Reports on local radio in Ashburton extreme winds between Ashburton and Rakaia Gorge.Getting very gusty here now.
I see on the Dunedin webcam it has been raining all morning with a cool 7.5 degrees. Will probably see some rain here later this afternoon.
Looks like another cold snap forecast for Saturday.
Cheers.

Good pictures there Deano showing the sky around Canterbury today.
It was one of those funny days. On TV One and on TV3, the stupid weather persons were raving on how windy it was in Canterbury. It may of been so but there was bugger all wind here in Ch Ch apart from some occasional gusts around about 3pm from the NW or west, onwards to about 5pm. Whilst it was calm, the sun did shine through the cloud and it was quite pleasant here. The very light variable breeze did tend light southerly around 6pm.
Also slowing coming onto rain here from 6pm with NW sky 'filling in"
Raining now as I type, barometer going up. Calm.
Looks like a convergenge!

It wasnt too windy in Auckland either as a light westerly flow is often "that no mans land" where we in the caldren in between the 2 high cells and an easterly flow and the WNW over the lower NI -just the drizzel went most of the day keeping it as cool as it was over a week ago when we had that "cold snap"

Very windy over night started about 3.00am to about 7.00 too windy to even sleep.
Also a lot of heavey rain up in the southern lakes Queenstown has had 45mm of rain since 3.00pm yesterday, we got a little bit here but have not got a gauge. (maybe 6-8mm at a guess)
The Otago Ski feilds recieved about 20-40cm of snow

A period of solid rain in Chch last evening, though I wouldn't have called it heavy. The southerly freshened up for a while. I don't know if it was a convergence, though there was quite probably some undercutting. Has clouded over again this afternoon, but knowing the current situation, I imagine it'll probably stay dry.
