Possible Storms Upper North Island - 28th Sep

Watching the amazing moon rise and have seen two lightning strikes from a towering cu right next to the moon. If only it was frequent enough to photograph. It's a stunning sight.

There has been some incredible pileus today. I was driving at the time and didn't have time to stop to take a picture. These were the largest caps I have ever seen.

Nice T Storm near Tepuke the last 2 hours, whole cloud lighting up against the moon, not heard of any hail reports yet though the upper/lower cloud temps would suggest good localised falls. Will check papers tomorrow.

That will be the storm I was watching as the moon was rising.

Travelled by bus from Rotorua to Gisborne via eastern BOP yesterday afternoon. Saw plenty of thundery cb clouds about, but no actual thunderstorms. Did get some soft graupel/hail between Tikitere/Hell's Gate and Lake Rotoiti. Looked like sleet as it hit the windscreen, but at only 300-400m I highly doubt it was snowy sleet, even though it was a cold day in Rotorua before I left. (about 10C at midday)

Plenty of Raglan residents where reporting super bright flashes of Light the west on Monday evening. Wouldnt be surprised if there were a few sprites thrown in the mix as those +CG's that came out from that storm were very strong and noticeable.
