I notice a location in the southern United kingdon reached 38.1C. I find this an extraordinary temperature given the lattitude, about 51deg.

I didn't see it Steven.
I assumed that 38.1 for a maximum which according to the television reports was the new max for England.
I have registered as it being so.
Where it was recorded, I don't know
Does anyone OUT there know ???
