Not down this way. Dunedin max temps from Jan 2nd through to the 9th peak at 15°C with showers every day.spwill wrote:Atleast 2017 starts warm, will feel like Summer for a few days
Who knows what we'll actually get but that's pretty miserable looking.

Re: General January Weather
Have been looking at Tuesday/Wednesday for chances, certainly looks like a moist and cool SW flow this week so some potential convergence against sea breezes. Today has been hot since early on, one of those days where you wouldn't mind a storm to freshen the evening up.Richard wrote:Wednesday is looking more and more likely at producing Canterbury storms

Re: General January Weather
Models have a slow moving moist front across the North Island tomorrow with cloud/showers likely to affect Auckland. An upper level trough on Tuesday will activate the front with some heavier rain over the North Island south of Hamilton.
Looking like Decembers weather pattern continues out to mid January.

Re: General January Weather
Back from Christmas holiday up in the Hutt area with inlaws.
Very wet there today, especially Upper Hutt/Moonshine, with strong NW.
Low cloud and overcast conditions and a very bumpy ride in take off from Wellington airport in the ATR, but fine and clear conditions at our arrival at ChCh. 30.1C maximum here for today.

Northlands turn for some hot weather, currently 30C at Whangarei, the dewpoint temperature around 16C, a humid mix there.
Some very light precipitation for Auckland this afternoon, dewpoint has come up to 19C.

Re: General January Weather
Gloomy unseasonal weather here today but luckily enough for it not to rain so I could tidy up the grass areas with the ride-on, after our break away after the Christmas and New Year breaks.

Re: General January Weather
It will be a dry January for Auckland/ Northland unless the tropics can start having more influence on our weather later in the month.

I think eastern Northland and Coromandel have had a good Summer and look well placed for good weather in the week ahead.

Re: General January Weather
Nice wee refresher of rain today, 6.2mm and more tomorrow maybe. Wow, starting to become a green summer, a rare treat.

Re: General January Weather
This morning certainly had a late winter feel to it, with rain, no wind and cold temps. Whereas later this afternoon, we have sun and it's warmed up quite nicely, whereas now it certainly has the thunderstorm feel to it.
We also had 6mm of rain, with temps hovering 10-12°C until to mid-afternoon. Then from 3pm, the sun started poking through and temps have shot up, reaching 21.8°C just after 5pm, but now the clouds have darkened and it's looking quite menacing.

No sparks yet. Certainly changed again, with temp dropping to 15°C with rain, but nothing particularly heavy and no rumbles.

Re: General January Weather
Very cold this time of the year in the south. Prob a run of 20 deg days for Tauranga under SW conditions. Been years since we had a stationary high over the Chathams area. The highs look to continue to be squeezed north by the S Island for a few more weeks. There also seems to be a continuation of Jet stream anomalies around the world which is affecting climates everywhere with unusual events .Pole shift occurring also which is influencing Antarctic conditions.[but that's a can of worms]
