Re: General April Weather
Humble pie? You got to be kidding, 9mm for Templeton, 12mm for Hoon Hay, 11mm for the airport and 12mm for West Melton, that hardly constitutes humble pie and it's next model run after the 27mm one had it down to 1mm. Bit quick to try and point out we were wrong when nearly all the stats say otherwise

Re: General April Weather
Um, its still today. And we are still having the odd brief heavy shower through here. 22mm now. I dislike the factions that continually have a crack at the authorities and don't give credit where it's due. Anyway, ill leave it at that not at all interested in escalating the debate higher

Re: General April Weather
Down to Geraldine today with the real rain falling as we crost the Rakaia river about 10am.
Stopped at the bookshop at Chertsey, noticed a few heavy bursts of rain on the roof, which had a few holes in it.
Not dripping on the millions of books in there although they had a few buckets around catching the drops.
On the way back travelling along the 72 Scenic Route, noticed the snow line, just below the cloud line around Mt. Somers and the Hutt Range.
Back later with my final reading for this site at West Melton.
Will let you know when I will resume readings at Geraldine.

Re: General April Weather
April 2017 was a month of two halves. Earlier in the month the remnants TC Debbie, and to a lesser extent TC Cook, brought exceptional rainfalls to most of the country, along with relatively warm temperatures in the North Island and the west of the South Island and little sunshine. In contrast, the second half was relatively drier overall, much warmer in the South Island and generally sunnier overall.
Some very preliminary April 2017 figures for the main centres:
Note that rainfall in other parts of Auckland were even higher, e.g. 318mm at Whangaparaoa.

Re: General April Weather
Here's NIWA's preliminary, 'April 2017 National Climate Summary'.
Tropical moisture brings prolific rainfall to the North Island and eastern South Island.
The national average temp of 14.0C was 0.7C above normal.
The month's highest temp of 30.3C was recorded at Fernhill in Hawke's Bay on the 2nd, and the lowest temp of -2.9C was recorded at Manapouri Aero on the 7th.
Lots of record or near record rainfalls...

Yes, actually closer to over 60mm that day according to a couple of PWS's around Hamilton Aero…cbm wrote:The Hamilton Aero figure will be about 50mm short as nothing was recorded on the 12th, the very wet day before Cyclone Cook
