Yea cold sinking air here. Have the fire going and the smoke is dropping to the ground like you get on a clear evening when the temp is plummeting for a good frost.

There was certainly a lot of lightning earlier in the day over North Waikato. The line looks like it is coming north now with heavy showers and thunderstorms. Quite humid here for time of year, dewpoint up to 19C.

Looks like there's not much of it left anymore to move onto Auckland. Thought I may break my record daily rain but need 20mm more...

Some ominous looking clouds to west and south of Chch, but nearest shower is over BP according to radar. Nothing in Metservice's thunderstorm outlook for us this afternoon.

Sounded like more thunder coming from the north as that squeeze zone fires up a little again.

35mm for the last 24 hours, giving 69mm for the 4 days. More than I expected. Some still don't have power or hot water after Tuesday night around here.

Some big differences from north and south of the harbour in Auckland for rainfall in the last 24 hours with the convergence zone stalling overnight.

Yes, There was a lot of Cu humulus going up over us here and surrounding districts, Ben, especially this afternoon but nothing much to develop into anything. Some nice cauliflower forms.
I noticed too that it was a NE or easterly for much of the day but MS kept on saying for it's Timaru forecast, SW dying out this evening when it wasn't SW anyway although maybe a bit higher causing these Cu humulus clouds to form?

I got woken up at around 0230 this morning by a couple of massive CG strikes nearby our house in Titirangi. Have been working on faults on the Vector network since Tuesday 10th. 16 hour shifts 9 hour breaks in between. Some areas are like war zones with massive damage done by the storm. Many power lines damaged by trees, power poles fallen over. Roofing iron etc. Just on a day off after a 72 hour working week. Back to do more fault work tomorrow morning.
Who put the LED's on the lightning arrestor ?
