Yes warnings should only be given it if likely life and property are at risk, at times you'll see warnings of 130-150mm for Fiordland,this is totally unnecessary

I calculated the integrated kinetic energy generated by X-TC Gita in Feb when impacting NZ to be around 15 to 20 TJ. Roughly a third of the Hiroshima bomb. It's a shame he didn't include or research any science behind the energy to produce this type of weather when he quoted ' bomb cyclone'

Yes, maybe they could be trimmed down a bit depending on area. Just like saying that there will be heavy snow above 500 metres for Christchurch or Dunedin City, mind you, Dunedin is New Zealand's largest city in area and some hills may be over 500 meters high and Christchurch has the Port Hills and BP.
