11mm so far. At least it fell in a form that can soak in. A few digs suggest it's now wet to about 1 to 1.5cm deep. Don't know how deep grass needs but sure looks like a long run of fine starting again Monday.

Quite heavy rain here at the moment, so more than just a dust settler

Some handy totals so far about northern parts of North Canterbury - Waiau 48.2mm - Cheviot 41.8mm and here 31.8mm, hoping to pass 40mm before it clears.

Just done run to remember in the Port Hills, it rained at Hansen Park but not a drop once we left Victoria Park and along Summit Road then down Rapaki. It was pretty windy at the top of Rapaki though. Sunny spells now in Cashmere. The models definitely got overexcited for Chch a week ago, good forecasting from MetService.

Well, the 'Gold' southerlies roared through here early this morning, delivering quite a bit of needed rain.
It poured down around 6am and 8am here, delivering 30mm in total to noon today.
Now clearing up with the wind dying down.

After all the predictions of a reasonable amount of rain Blenheim only managed 5mm. However the model predictions were all over the place - at one stage GFS predicting 30mm then on the next run less than 1mm

Just 5mm here in Christchurch today, with sunny spells about. Lots of brown grass around. This will be back to square one in a weeks time. Looking very settled over the next 2 weeks, bar a few early showers tomorrow and possible isolated shower Wednesday night. Good that North Canterbury got a good soaking though!

Nice Cu clouds this afternoon down here, more on the photographs page.
Cold southerly did peak up a bit more this afternoon, after my last posting making it a rather cool and unpleasant in the wind. The 'old Man Southerly" effect.
Died down now though with skies clearing.

A clear evening over Auckland but unstable skies out to sea in the west, might see some lightning in the west next few hrs.

Yes, been hoping for those storms to come across since this afternoon but not looking likely now. Trying to will every last drop out of this system as the next ridge looks unmovable. South of Hamilton has got a little better serve from the showers today, but just means have accumulated 3.8mm instead of <1.
There is a hint of green shooting already since the rain started 48 hours ago, but won't last long.

About 35mm here from the last few days. But I see the figure varied a lot locally, some as low as 8mm. In any case it's good to finally have got some rain. fingers crossed for a little more Thursday.

Re: General February weather
Half a metre of snow on Mt Hutt, not bad for a February system!

Re: General February weather
That IMHO, while far from unprecedented is newsworthy. Just the fact that it was 3C in Queenstown this morning was not. Not sure why RNZ felt it warranted calling the mayor
