Next trough on the conveyor belt is generating some nice activity off the Upper and central NI this morning. Good moisture at mid levels as well. Might get another rumbling again today.

Heavy showers coming ashore just north of chch city. Looks very unstable. Was not expecting anything this early in the day.

Don't think that's quite what they said in their, Nov-Jan Outlook video. What they did say on Nov 1 was that it would be a 'very warm start to November, with some summer-like spells over the coming weeks', which for most of the country it has been. However, the only mention of rainfall specifically for November was that there would be 'quite a bit of rain in the coming weeks for the west of the South Island', which there has been. Weather isn't climate, so it will be interesting to see how the overall pattern looks like by the end of Jan.melja wrote: ↑Tue 20/11/2018 18:28melja wrote:Not sure this helping NIWA's claims of a scorcher November nor a dry one!No Nev Niwa did indeed make a claim of a very warm and dry November. There a video of two of them talking about it.Nev wrote:It was the media that made that claim, but no don't NIWA will get the blame as usual…

The Niwa outlook favours average to below average rainfall for the eastern South Island for the 3 months however we can say that won't occur now, there will be above average rainfall numbers for the 3 months overall , Nov-January eastern SI.

Few pictures I took out and about on the day of the tornado. Top 2 are taken between Tai Tapu and Little River, the last is of a weakening storm moving north over the outskirts of Christchurch. Although it does look like there is a small funnel... I have just noticed this.
