A weather report from Italy

Unread post by spwill »

Some great thunder and lighting over Venice today, hoping it will continue tonight for some lightning photography

We have had thunder on 6 days of our trip so far, a couple of photos below of storms over Tuscany

You are in Italy, I am in The Netherlands, and traveling through Western Europe at the moment, look forward to some thunderstorms if they happen.
Who put the LED's on the lightning arrestor ?

Italy seems to have had an active thunderstorm season alright
is that always the case?
I bet they get some good sea breeze convergence
and the Mediteranian sea is warm too
they get good water spouts too
I am visiting there this time next year (school trip), so maybe can see some action :)

Lovely pictures spwill. I hope you are enjoying Italy as it is a fantastic country to visit for so many reasons - landscape, culture, food, the language and so on...….

From the synops, the weather at the Venice Tessera (Marco Polo) Airport up to 1800GMT (which is on the mainland) was:

Friday 6th, max 22.7°C and 24mm of rain
Saturday 7th, max 24.4°C and 0mm rain
Sunday 8th, max 21.2°C, and rain 6mm

It was rather humid though. Europe has seen a lot of thunderstorms this summer and especially over northern Italy and eastwards to the Balkans with many reports of larger than golf ball sized hail - some have been in the 8-10cm diameter size. This Twitter site features numerous pictures and videos of European severe weather but it does update frequently:

Yes, Italy has to be one of the best places on earth for a hoilday for so many reasons, a big shame NZ is so far away from here.
Driving in Italy is always interesting, the freeways are great but often crowded with big trucks and fast cars. The roads away from the freeways are narrow, winding with no verge and few places to stop to take a photo. The locals love to speed, tailgate and overtake on corners.

A couple more photos, storm clouds over the Alps, Lemone
Surfing in Munich after the storm
