Unread post by Razor »

Some significant spring weather looming

Severe Weather Warning
Issued at 8:08pm Monday 7 Oct 2019

An extended period of significant heavy rain expected for the west coast of the South Island
A front is forecast to move onto the South Island from the west tonight (Monday), and then become slow moving over the west coast of the South Island through to Thursday where it is should deliver an extended period of significant heavy rain.

Warning amounts of heavy rain are expected in Westland, Fiordland and the Canterbury Headwaters. Heavy Rain Warnings (Orange) are now in force for these areas. Note, for Westland, this is likely to be a significant rain event where 450 to 650mm could accumulate over an extended period from Tuesday to Thursday, mainly in the ranges. This forecast amount of rain will be considerable, even for this area which typically can see large amounts of rain, and is likely to cause disruptions.

A Heavy Rain Watch is also in force for the Otago Headwaters.

People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any upgrades are made, or further areas are added.

Should be a good fall along the Alps and westward.
Hope nothing serious eventuates from this like the Fox Glacier dump-out in the last significant rain event for the West Coast.
