heavy rain here at the moment. blitz has lots of lightning strikes to the west of northland.

Some brief downpours here at the moment. Cluster 90 km NW of Auckland continues to spark.

thunderstorm starting to come into auckland now. metservice has a low risk. which is odd. they had a high risk for auckland last week but never happened

I am guessing that storm will weaken when it hits the west coast, but more storms could develop over Northland/north Auckland early afternoon?

Radar shows parts of north Waikato might catch a storm next hr, some lightning showing up on the frontal line.

the front suddenly got shunted on to us...was a bit of a gale before it too

Absolutely, it was simply breathtaking. The pilot was good enough to point it out, though I'd have seen it eventually

Anywho, back on topic. Hope that activity made it to the North Island for you guys to enjoy!

i see there is now a moderate for bay fo plenty,auckland and northland for this afternoon. i doupt that any more storms will developed today sadly

I see the dewpoint 9C at Timaru and Ashburton airports this morning which is a highly favourable number!

i see they have a risk for severe thunderstorms there in the eastern south island with a risk of small tornadoes. i think from today its been one year since that big dusty tornado touched down north of ashburghton.


looks like more rain is on its way for auckland.

Had some big fat drops as the trough passed through into the gulf. Proper north westerly now blowing ahead of the front.
