A lot of rain on the West Coast, but not as concentrated in time as for the March event, which may help. Cropp 860mm MTD to 0900.

The Waimak was not as high as March this morning but it was extremely turbulent. The Waiau River was as high as I've seen it.

Talking with a woman in Queenstown who was saying they have the water front sand bagged with the lake getting quite high, and there's still another few days of rain at the headwaters to go yet

Always interesting to see how the models project on these extreme rainfall events. From Dec 1st, Cropp river @ waterfall rainfall total is now 1091mm up until 5:06am today. EC & GFS are likely to miss the target by double.
For the Cropp river area around 800 to 1000 ASL - Model run 1st December 00Z for 144 hours (up Saturday 1pm 7th December)
UK 1200 to 1300mm
CMC 1200 to 1300mm
ICON 1000 to 1100mm
EC 700 to 800mm
BoM 600 to 700mm
GFS 550 to 650mm

I dont think that is connected to the rising lake levels though.

Significant new rain warnings issued by MS for the coming days. Really concerning for the coast and southern lakes- I'd be nervous down Wanaka and Queenstown way

None of the insurance companies cover any of the shops in the downtown Queenstown area for flooding from Lake Wakatipu, in 1999 there was around four foot of water through the lower part of town from the lake flooding.

From the QLDC
The decision has been made to close a section of Ardmore Street in Wānaka between McDougall Street and Lakeside Road, as vehicles driving through flood water here can cause wave action and damage properties as a result.
A 30km speed limit is being expanded to cover the whole Wānaka CBD.

Waimak was lower and calmer this morning, but still carrying a moderately high flow. That should probably accelerate again through tomorrow.

With some of the cloud formations around I'm wondering if we'll see some spillover activity at some point?
