Hi all,
on http://www.ozabove.com is a nice image showing the colder/warmer waters off the east coast. Go to Images Full and scroll down about half way to this image: NOAA17_02092005_083340
You'll see a largely cloud free area to the east of NZ, the rightmost image shows the thermal infrared and you can see the ocean currents mixing in beautiful swirls!
Cheers

uuhh... not sure what you're talking about? If it's fog you'll see it on any of the visible imagery, more than likely not on the IR images.
The thermal IR image is set to only paint temperatures between -2 (Blue) and +30 (red) deg C, so any gray areas in the thermal IR image you see are outside that range (and not fog, if that's what you were referring to).
Outside the range could be ground that is too hot (we see that often here in OZ, not often in NZ I guess...) and more often higher level cloud which is colder then -2.
Cheers
