Yes haha We are the antipodes of New Zealand. My city has an semi-arid Mediterranean climate.

It really rains for more days, that information is wrong. It rains about 40-45 days a year, but most of those days are small.

Attached is a screenshot (from Wikipedia) for the climate of Alicante, which is on the coast. The climate regime is described as 'hot semi-arid' under the Koppen classification system. Elche is approx. 15kms SE of Alicante and a little inland from the coast.

Look at all that lovely sunshine - at 2900 hours that is about double what I get in Tiverton!

As Elche is a little further inland, am I correct is assuming the maximums (especially in summer) would be a little higher and the minimums a little lower than those for Alicante?

The satellite picture for this afternoon shows clear skies over eastern Spain and the latest METAR for Alicante confirms this:

It is nearly as warm here in Tiverton, Devon at 14°C, but it is wet and windy.

In the next few hours a lot of wind, rain and snow are expected in the Mediterranean area of ​​Spain.

There has been a lot of wet and windy weather along the east coast of Spain and in the Balearic Islands in the last couple of days and a lot of snow in inland areas. The tweet linked below shows the snowfall this morning (Mon 20th Jan) in the town of Banyeres de Mariola which is approx. 40km inland from Alicante and at an altitude of 850m (2800ft) - looks like a good foot of wet snow.

Very warm today (Saturday 1st February) on the east side of Spain - some locations look to have got to 25°C.

Alicante Airport reached 23°C in its METARS this afternoon:

EDIT: The highest temperature in Spain on Saturday (1st Feb) was 26.8°C at Valencia Airport, which is approx. 100km north of Alicante on the east coast of Spain.

Sunday (2nd February) was also warm and sunny over much of eastern Spain and up into the SE of France. The maximum temperature in Alicante (town site) was 26.0°C and at the Airport, 23.9°C.

The heat seems to have peaked in eastern Spain on Tuesday 4th February with a maximum of 29.6°C at Valencia Airport - this beats the old February record at this site of 29.4°C set on the 28th in 1990. The record of the site extends back to 1966 - when the Brits started invading the Spanish resorts on their summer holidays!! This record is all the more remarkable as it was set right at the start of the month.

Also for the 4th - Alicante (town site) had a maximum of 28.6°C and the Airport 27.3°C.

The warm weather has returned to Spain, especially eastern and southern parts. The temperature hit 26.9°C at Valencia Airport and 26.3°C at Huercal Overa (Andalusia) on Tuesday 11th February. The high for Alicante was 24.2°C at the airport site. The warm weather is set to continue until the weekend.
