Metservice data has updated... Still picking 50mm for Christchurch, and much much more slightly inland.

HAHA nope, people were very angry. I just sat against the wall very amused at the High country folk completely owning the NZTA!!

Don't understand not allowing chains, they're perfectly good for snowy conditions.

Just ducked my head out of the motel window, looks filthy in the distance over the town centre with drifting rain but not torrential.

Word is that NZTA are announcing changes tomorrow including the reintroduction of chains

Looks like coastal north Canterbury is the hit zone overnight and tomorrow for heavy rain... MS latest warning don't mention down here at all. Maybe some snow for the top of the inland road at a push on sunrise.

It's monsooning down now, can't be good driving conditions along the coast.

Edit - car was reading 6C at 5pm in town (Kaikoura again).

WTH! Really, bureaucracy gone power crazy. Absolutely absurd. I realise the young idiots will give it a go and get in trouble. But I say "Let Darwin sort the Idiots out." Every year it gets worse. I so want to slap the decision makers.

Edited cause someone is a pansy and wasn't prepared to ask me nicely to edited it myself, had to go through a moderator.

It's actually ramped up. Over 100mm now
It will be corrected at some point today, it needs a human touch lol
So...the Metservice failed to apply that "human touch" and let misinformation stay online until as late as when I went to bed last night- we have recieved only few mm

What makes my blood boil is that this information gets into the discussion as 'fact' and authorities start putting press releases out suggested flooding overnight, and therefore wasting everyones resources and time on it. Pretty darn unprofessional

Yes you could certainly make a case that Metservice dropped the ball yesterday on the data not being updated, not good enough and although they were correct not to put out any heavy rain watches for Christchurch the point is alot of people look at that 48 hour guidance as an actual forecast and base their plans around it...

Certainly turned into a non event, didn't even break the 20mm mark, not that we really needed more than that really.

I wonder if the 150mm that CWU predicted will happen...

Not likely, it stayed heavy overnight but eased off this morning. Kaikõura may struggle into that 80-110mm range today but only just. Edit - maybe not even that, we're on about 50-55mm so far and only tipped for another 18mm today, it has virtually stopped now.

Cloud base is about 0m asl looking outside! 😄
