Here in Swanson we had some pretty beefy rain after midnight, just under 60mm at a peak rate of 107mm/hr. Local reports of minor flooding

Hanging out to see the sun here in Christchurch. 3.3 hours recorded since the 17th.
Looking at the forecast, we might get some on Thursday.

Re: General June Weather
hoping for thunder here today. otherwise. monday the next setup. i see the odt called yesterdays multi vortex tornado a "mini tornado" doh. that was the real deal. was woken by heavy bursts of rain last night. but no thudner as i said. see what today brings. what is the odd of a further tornado risk? metservice has risk for coastal auckland. they never had a risk before yesterdays tornado. but then they added it. they often do that.

Re: General June Weather
Quite abit of action up there! Looks like more storms up there today. Cloudy and damp down here, nothing to be excited about. Hoping tomorrow nights low pressure system and rain will clear up this clagg! Might be a period of heavier rain overnight mid canty clearing during monday.

Wasn't it last June that was miserable too, or the previous one? Great weather for running though.

The tornado on Saturday morning at East Tamaki/Otara seems to have caused a bit of damage:

Re: General June Weather
The mature pine trees snapped at the base in Dairy Flat suggests that some of these vortex's might be EF2's.

Re: General June Weather
woa some of the video footage from the east tamaki nado is amazing!
this CB line coming down the coast looks to have a NW wind change with it
so chance of another tornado yet me thinks (wind shear etc)
thunder here

Re: General June Weather
EU has 500mb -24C with surface dp 11C so a reasonable thermodynamic mix there for thunder/hail in the west.

Re: General June Weather
no thunder yesterday. i was planning to be at east tamaki at the time of the tornado. but i ended up not going. doh. im so bummed that i missed the tornado. some good footage of the twister. so this was a really good tornado producer. feel sorry for those who has damaged homes.
reports yesterday tornado took experts by surprise. they always say that when auckland gets a tornado. glad no one was hurt.
hoping for thunder tommorow.

Re: General June Weather
Metservice did mention tornadoes for auckland in the thunderstorm outlook for that day
auckland was in the perfect spot re the cut off low's position and the different wind directions (surface NE and N higher up etc) and the curving of the CB lines, the SE quadrant seems to to be the best spot for the most wind shear in this setup
and then you want new CB lines forming...on small wind direction change lines..convergence line....and the best spot is right at the start of that CB line formation...where there is the most intense updrafts and rain free base...and you could see that in the cloud in the video footage for east tamaki
