22.7 here today, just 0.1 off the new record set last week. And that's with a coastal N to NE flow moderating the temps too...

That's no typo. The data is displayed on MS's website.

I deliberately didn't include this year's figures for Chch Gardens though, mainly because its Aug rainfall of 128.3mm looks very suspect compared to 16.6mm at Chch Aero and 7.4mm at Riccarton. Maybe the gardener didn't get the memo about not watering the rain-gauge? … lol

Oh ok, I was there during late winter and spring, hated it too.

....regarding the NE flow over Christchurch, I used to like the days, well not really, when the NE used to blow and all this cloud come off Pegasus Bay, covering the city but if you looked to the south towards the Halswell area, it was sunny and clear especially around the Motokorara/Tai Tapu/ Birdlings Flat area.
I called this the "NE Kink"...
... down here in Geraldine, it was a rather cloudy day, today, with drizzly/light rain overnight and this morning but easing away from noon, but remaining rather cloudy with light NE winds. Another 3.6mm for today. Today's maximum was 14.9C.

like at 17c already
Sunday just been out of Raglan the sea temps were all over the place, a small patch of 18.5C blue water in close. 16.5C out at 50m depths which was 1C warmer than the Sat before at same spot. Later in the day coming in the inshore was 19C which is crazy warm, sure was just a very thin layer since the conditions were perfect for sun heating the surface. The gauge in our sounder does not read high, often see it reading below the SST charts in summer.

yes, I have been out surfing and there was these real warm patches alright and some of them the warmth was deep too (blue colour ocean water)
and the differences in those temperatures on the foam lines was like 4c
the lack of wind and more sunshine compared to a normal october is a big factor

I see Hamilton Aero exceeded its normal Oct Tmax by more than 5.0C for 5 consecutive days to the 26th, so technically a 'heat-wave' as defined by the WMO. Ruakura, however, only managed 4 consecutive days.

Wow crazy. It sure has been warm. May even jump in the pool today. Don’t think I’ve ever been close to wanting a swim in October. Normal mid November at the earliest.

A fine and warm day to end off October.
We must of had the country's maximum was we got to 29.7C here, with 29.2C recorded at another site here in Geraldine.
Cloud did increase from noon, with light N to NW winds here.
No thunder here as forecast by MS, but I did hear of reports of some isolated claps around the Raincliff area and some activity out to sea.
The southerly change came through at 1737hrs local DST and with the lowering of the temperature from the mid-twenties to low teens by 8pm.
Sadly, low cloud stratus moved over and remained that way for the rest of the evening with some light rain and drizzle throughout the evening.
2.6mm for the day.
