Re: General November Weather
Still looking good for rain next week with that low crossing. Note on the models that the high pressure areas look weak. Anyway will be great for more rain .
Metservice Auckland forecast tommorow say showers possibly thundery in the west mid morning but the thunderstorm risk map states before Dawn. There is a risk of Heavy showers as the front moves through. Low thunder chance .
Edit I see metservice has included the rest of Auckland in the moderate zone. It now states before Dawn and morning

Re: General November Weather
Yes the thunderstorm did develop although it was on thin line according to the radar. Some good lightning, but sadly no long rolls of thunder with a dump at thee end. Some hail here, but, now all over bar the shouting but it might be interesting to see how it proceeds north. ?

Re: General November Weather
Good images on the Rakaia radar as this system moves north.
Anyway, it was a fine and warm day with light winds and clear skies,
Becoming warm with today's maximum being 27.4C.with light winds for the morning an afternoon.
The westerlies came through around 1;45pm and with this reducing humidity levels.
Winds easing from around 6pm and then reverting back to the north, with a cool NE for a time around then. Some cloud forming to the south of here from then nothing much happening, then as I was just getting into the shower around 10pm, the was this boom of thunder.
As I do reading from 10pm, the rainfall for today will be included into tomorrow's weather report.

Re: General November Weather
Quite an isolated little downpour you got there Brian.
Also noticed quite a bit of lightning about 50 km offshore from you just before 6am this morn.

The Canterbury high country was the place to be today away from the cold windy southwest swept plains @lakeheron

Re: General November Weather
Nice photo, Dean. The round hill to the left of your photograph has a name, I can't think off. At the recent Geraldine Festival in the photograph and Art section, someone has a similar photograph to yours but that mound hill was covered with scattered snow, which looked quite effective.
Anyway, today was a rather cloudy day with scattered Cu layers and the odd sunshine coming through. However from 3pm the clagg moved in from the east to SE which covered the sky and persisted into the evening. The SE was quite prominent here not as the forecasters kept on saying South-westerly, although the general flow over the country was from that direction.
Today's maximum was 17.4C.
...by the way we got 2.7mm from the late thunderstorm last night. Even though, it did hail we were relived as our treasured Iris plants didn't get damaged as we are expecting another load of people to inspect our garden later next week.

Re: General November Weather
GFS throwing up some tasty modelling for Friday afternoon for mid-Canterbury; cold uppers with moisture, morning heating and strong shear. Might be getting ahead of myself but one to keep an eye on.

Re: General November Weather
Very active jet stream pattern across NZ for next 10 days. Looks El Nino style weather rather than La Nina.
