Another fine and blue dome day here with it getting up to 24.9C. NE winds.
Nothing much happening for the first week of the next month, weather-wise sadly.

A generally dry January 2021, apart from lower South Island areas, particularly Otago. Temps were also generally mild overall, apart from being a little cooler in the western South Island. Also generally sunny, apart from the northeastern and southern areas of the South Island.
MetService January 2021 Summary - Mountain snow followed by record heat

2021 began with flooding rain and large hail for parts of Canterbury and Otago whilst thunderstorms rumbled across North Island and the upper South Island. Respite came in the form of a brief ridge before a low swept across the Tasman Sea. That was the last unsettled act for a week as high pressure set in, diverting a Tasman low away to the northeast. On the 19th a low in the Southern Ocean brought severe gales, heavy rain, and severe thunderstorms to South Island. Cold air moved in behind this feature delivering summer snow to the mountains. The chill didn’t last though as northwesterlies pushed temperatures to record levels in the east. Ashburton Airport hit its highest ever temperature at 39.3 Celsius on the 26th, Christchurch saw temperatures of 35 Celsius on two consecutive days for the first time ever, Napier hit 35.1 Celsius on the 28th whilst Gisborne Airport and Masterton saw 35.0 Celsius. A southerly change then dropped temperatures before high pressure brought a settled end to the month.
