I was running up the port hills late afternoon, it was a light to moderate easterly up there

Fingers crossed re Friday, although I hope it doesn't land on us at the Crusaders game

Beautiful weather so far this week, yes we need the rain but I can't fault the aesthetics!

Yes. An uninteresting cloudy day with some drizzle early today.
Not much wind. Up to 16.6C for today.
Glad to see Jamie getting some needed rain up in the Waikato today.

It's a real shame that rain pulled further north in the end for overnight tonight as we really could have done with that 50mm.
Seems to be the way lately, the models are all over the place never really give us an insight of consistency.
Friday isn't overly cold but it's the abruptness of the change in cold upper air to - 20c, and a strong upper jet that may get a cell or two going on the change line.
Due to the forcing dynamics.
Hail 10-20mm and southerlies 100+kmh will be a big tickle for the autumn leaves.
I'd give it a moderate chance

As we reach the end of March I can report yet another warm and very dry one- looks like we won't get much rain tonight in which case we are currently sitting on a total of 8mm for March

A fine day eventuated today where as I was expecting it to be a claggy day with occasional drizzle as forecasted.
However, it did cloud over during the afternoon with thickening high cloud, especially inland and it finally came onto rain from 8:50pm, with 2.7mm of rain, not drizzle, falling to 10pm. 19C for today.

A warmer than normal March overall. Also mostly drier than normal, except for western areas from Waikato to the West Coast.
MetService March 2021 Summary - A month of two halves

March started off wild, windy and wet for western regions south of Auckland, due to a combination of stormy Tasman Sea and unsettled Southern Ocean. However, intense High pressure then became the name of the game over New Zealand from the middle of the month, bringing an extended dry run to most of the country. Soil moisture levels were running below normal for the time of year in most regions, with the exception of the West Coast South Island. The month ended with high humidity and localised thunderstorms over the north and west of the North Island.

Overall, it was a drier than normal March in northern and eastern regions of both Islands, with only the West Coast of the South Island, Nelson, and also western areas of the North Island between Waikato and Palmerston North picking up near normal or slightly above normal rainfall totals.

Mild northwesterlies for the first week of the month produced unusual warmth in eastern regions, before temperatures fell sharply in the second week of the month. However, temperatures settled back to more typical levels across the back half of March. In broad terms, monthly temperatures ended up close to average across the North Island, as well as Nelson and Marlborough, but slightly above average across the remainder of the South Island.
