Weather General

I guess this is the time the centres soak up their predominant winds and weather,

Auckland etc.: Showers with W/NE
New Plymouth: Rain and westerlies,
Hawke's Bay: Fine and warm
Wellington: Mild dry northerlies
Christchurch: Dry northeasters

and so on

With 42mm so far this month we are more than 200mm behind YTD average. Sunshine is 75hrs ahead. After a very poor start this month Ch'ch has some catching up to do on the latter (for Sept).

Christchurch: Dry northeasters
Yes that well describes today's weather in Chch. The northeasterly seems to be the dominant wind direction here, even when the flow is west or northwest. The much hyped Canterbury norwester may be the dominant spring wind inland, but it usually only affects Chch for brief spells.

Yes, weather not up to much over the next couple of weeks by the look of it. The whole country will get above normal temperatures from later in the week.

A little cloud over the Mackenzie soon cleared before lunch and it's still fine and lovely!

A coolish nor'easter in Christchurch tonight and some patchy low cloud. No sign yesterday or this morning of the rain or drizzle that was forecast.

Looks like the temperatures may creep into the low 20's on Friday and Saturday with a nor'wester due...hope so!!

Humid strong northwesterlies for Northern Districts tomorrow morning with isolated showers, maybe some storms?

Then a change to southerlies. Exciting. :)

On a quick note, GFS 06z and 18z (26th) are both forecasting heavy westerly rain on Saturday night (northerly winds at surface)

NGP is showing similar forecasts but less rainfall..

hmmm
