I wonder whether Tornadoes such as the Greymouth March 2005 Tornado were infact a very strong landspout type (without mesocyclone). This would explain the apparent lack of dynamics for a supercell on the day.
This tornado did start out as a waterspout. Waterspouts can form with or without a mesocyclone. I would say most of them without.

I bought a print of the tornado that appeared in the The Press, approx A4 size. The Print doesnt really show any mesocyclone traits to the tornado.NZstorm wrote:I wonder whether Tornadoes such as the Greymouth March 2005 Tornado were infact a very strong landspout type (without mesocyclone).
