Very localised and variable in the showers though as I didn't get any at my place, just a few light soft hails from that one. However, the wind squalled up to near gale briefly and temp dropped to 2 degrees.
End of June cold shot.

Massive hailstorm in Akaroa about 7-8am, leaving a white blanket, plus frequent thunder and lightning for a time. Snow low down on hills, along with howling southerly gusts. Power went off for a few hours.

Re: End of June cold shot.
Left Christchurch at 7.30am with sleet falling near Hagley Park. Mostly light rain until Hornby where it was then perfectly clear skies. Rather chilly wind. Does anyone have the wind chill temperature info? Lovely sunshine up here in Methven on my drive up from home.

Re: End of June cold shot.
Just heard you on Chris Lynch Tony talking about another potential cold snap next week, which model are you seeing that on Tony? I can't see any on EC or GFS though I do understand that you have access to the paid versions of those models which give you a longer range...

Re: End of June cold shot.
On the 12Z run of the EC, 6 of the 50 ensemble members show snow on the ground for Christchurch in the next Wednesday to Friday time frame. Its been there off and on for a few days now. A lot of variation from run to run, but some want to develop a tough east of the South Island then, following a cold front 12-24 hours earlier. Its just wait and see at this stage, not yet a forecast.Bradley wrote: ↑Tue 29/06/2021 11:55 Just heard you on Chris Lynch Tony talking about another potential cold snap next week, which model are you seeing that on Tony? NIWA tweeted a video of snow flurries at sea level at their Evans Bay facility in Wellington during a heavy band of rain etc around 1230. Seems to be a large chain shower setup with heavy bands passing through every 45mins or so, with blue sky in-between.

Has no one heard of sleet? Snowflakes mixed in with rain is not snow. It's sleet. (although not in the USA).BeaconHill wrote: ↑Tue 29/06/2021 13:11 NIWA tweeted a video of snow flurries at sea level at their Evans Bay facility in Wellington during a heavy band of rain etc around 1230. Max of 11.7 here today, just after midnight. Windy and 10 degrees most of this afternoon, unusual for here
